During an episode of pulmonary embolism, patients with right ventricular dysfunction, elevated cardiac biomarkers, or both, are at higher risk of decompensation or death. In these patients, conventional catheter-directed thrombolysis (cCDT) optimises the delivery of fibrinolytic drugs into the pulmonary arteries, thus reducing the necessary drug dose.
