Prophylactic antibiotics don’t prevent death in alcohol-related hepatitis

Patients hospitalised with severe alcoholic hepatitis were not likelier to survive to the 2-month mark if given prophylactic antibiotics. Authors conclude antibiotics should be reserved for known infections. Conducted by a French team, the study appeared in JAMA .
